If anything, the season finale we witnessed this past May preserved The Flash's annual tradition of going out on insane cliffhangers. It was revealed at The Flash's SDCC panel that the villain will be Cicada, the metahuman-hating villain who first appeared in DC comics in 2001. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won't be long before the world learns that Barry Allen has become. The Flash. "We're going to start exploring a little bit of the detective-ness of Ralph", he teased. Even worse, he believes his origin is linked to that of the Flash, and he sets about gathering a cult of like-minded followers to make him effectively immortal by killing those who the Scarlet Speedster has saved. However, a mysterious stranger crashed the party and revealed herself to be Nora Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy), Barry and Iris' (Candice Patton) daughter from the future. He'll be played by American Pie's Chris Kline. Will parenthood be the challenge that finally slows The Flash down?
For more on Cicada, check out the "Blood Will Run" arc from The Flash vol. 2, which you can find in collected form for less than $10. Cicada is a cult leader in the pages of DC Comics, but Todd Helbing says that won't be the case on the show. On the screen, Cicada is described by the network as "a grizzled, blue-collar everyman whose family has been torn apart by metahumans".
