The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired star shortstop Manny Machado from the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday in exchange for five prospects.

Phillips notes that the Machado situation will slow down Plan B pursuits for other teams until it is resolved. This week, the 4-time All-Star became just the second Oriole to start an All-Star Game at shortstop after previously starting the Midsummer Classic at third base, and fourth player in Major League Baseball history to accomplish the feat. He led Baltimore in batting average (.315), home runs (24) and RBIs (65). Hes hitting.314 with a.905 OPS with six homers, 30 RBIs and 36 runs scored this season. "We felt improving the team in this period was imperative and we think Manny Machado is the best target out there". He was the key to the trade. "When JT (Justin Turner) is down, Mannys ability and willingness to play third base on those occasions will be really important going forward".

Kremer, 22, was 6-3 with a 3.03 ERA in 17 combined starts with high Class-A Rancho Cucamonga and Tulsa.

Machado will play shortstop for Big Blue and will fill the void left by Corey Seager, who suffered a season-ending injury. They outbid the Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks and Cleveland Indians, among others, according to reports. He has hit at least 30 home runs and 30 doubles in each of those three seasons, making him one of just three players - and the only one in the AL - to reach both of those marks every season since 2015. Not only that, but Machado likely gets to stay at shortstop, the position he manned this year after previously playing third base for Baltimore.
