Paramount has dropped the first official trailer for a movie called Overlord, a secret project from Bad Robot made by Australian filmmaker Julius Avery (Son of a Gun). The first trailer sells a fun-looking, schlocky Medal of Honor-meets-Wolfenstein (or Saving Private Ryan-meets-The Thing, if we're talking films) hybrid of WWII thrills and supernatural horror. Combining a gripping D-Day aerial insertion (well, aerial flailing would be more correct) from some paratroopers, with insane Nazi scientists, zombies, and AC/DC, this first preview plays out exactly like the "batshit crazy" film Abrams promised it would be.
Arriving Nov. 9 from Paramount Pictures, Overlord stars Jovan Adepo, John Magno, Wyatt Russell, Bokeem Woodbine, Pilou Asbaek, Jacob Anderson and Iain De Caestecker. As they approach their target, they soon begin to realize there's more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation.
The story was first conceived by Abrams and Billy Ray (The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips), with the screenplay penned by Ray and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Vacancy).
J.J. Abrams' supernatural World War II film Overlord has a new release date.
