Real Madrid issue statement clarifying their position on Neymar

Neymar should have done more for Brazil at the World Cup, says legendary Ronaldo

Ronaldo: 'We All Expected More' from Neymar at 2018 World Cup

Some media reports claimed that Madrid had sent an emissary to Brazil to negotiate the Neymar's transfer to the Bernabéu with the player's father.

"Given the constant information linking the PSG player Neymar with our club, Real Madrid CF wants to clarify that it has no plans to make any offers for the player", a club statement read.

Real Madrid are being strongly linked with an approach for the attacker - especially after the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo - but according to AS, PSG will do everything that they can to avoid a sale.

According to "Globesporte", Calafat, head of the global football department at Real, has established the first contact in order convince the player to join Los Blancos next season.

Ronaldo sympathised with the Paris Saint-German star, suggesting his influence was curbed by the fractured metatarsal which ended his club season in February.

It surmises that Madrid are aware that it will be a tough negotiation but trust that the player's dad can exert the necessary pressure to open the doors.

PSG are unlikely to part with a superstar they broke the bank to acquire, while it would be an unusual move for a former Barcelona player to become a Galatico.

Real have now issued an official statement making their position on the 26-year-old forward clear though.

Spanish newspaper AS then reported on Friday that in an attempt to ward off Madrid's advances, PSG were willing to give Neymar a pay rise - potentially to more than Lionel Messi's annual net salary of €40 million.

How could Real Madrid look with Neymar? But the Parisian club are hoping this new salary offer will prevent him from wanting to leave.

"We all expected more from him because he's the star of the team", Ronaldo told SporTV, as quoted by Spanish publication Sport.
