Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes England can feel optimistic about their future, despite losing to Croatia in the World Cup semi-finals.

Perisic and his country went on to win the tie 2-1 after extra time, booking their place in Sunday's final against France.

"Perisic is the kind of winger that is different to the others", the Portuguese tactician told Russia Today.

The 29-year-old has once again been linked with United in this window, although Inter have fought hard in the past to keep him in Italy.

"Normally you look at wingers and they are just fast and creative".

"But he is also physical, very physical".

Notably, all the aforementioned players did not take part at the World Cup, so it may be a while before the likes of David de Gea (Spain), Victor Lindelof (Sweden), Fred (Brazil), Nemanja Matic (Serbia) and Marcos Rojo (Argentina) return for training.

"So for them to go back to their country and take a nation like Croatia to the World Cup final is something awesome".

They do have a big pre-season, however, as they take on European giants Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan in the summer.

Do you think Mourinho might still be interested in signing Perisic?

Kroos has been one of the best midfielders in world football since moving to the Bernabeu from Bayern Munich in 2014 and he's played a key role in winning three Champions League's over the past four seasons.

New signing Diogo Dalot was also at Carrington on Wednesday, along with Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Antonio Valencia, Andreas Pereira, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Joel Pereira.
