In 2014 the world was re-introduced to Godzilla.
Director Michael Dougherty (Krampus) told EW that he wanted to show the "paranoia and endless speculation about whether he (Godzilla) is the only one out there or whether we're threatened by others like his kind".
"Not without giving away too much", he laughs. Michael Dougherty went into some detail about one of those monsters, Rodan, calling him a "winged A-bomb".
Godzilla: King of the Monsters follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. With human characters played by Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, and Millie Bobby Brown, who find themselves caught up in a grand conspiracy to harness the power of Godzilla and his kind as they begin to reawaken. "I think we've done him justice". It's really gonna be something seeing all these creatures rendered in 2018 effects, but for my money the real draw of Godzilla: King of The Monsters will be seeing Dougherty work with this level of spectacle.
"It takes place at a very key moment and it's a sort of call to arms", he said.
Gareth Edwards used the infamous Kaiju sparingly, saving the special effects budget for a slobber-knocker of a brawl between Godzilla and a pair of MUTO monsters that saw an entire city Man of Steeled in the process. Her occupation comes with its hazards, naturally, as she and her daughter are kidnapped by a rival organization with their own plans for the monsters.
