"And when he turned his back they just tossed him on the floor and she started hitting him, and then she grabbed a brick and started hitting him with the brick, and then out of nowhere he saw 3-4 other guys just come rushing and just start stomping on him", Mendoza explained through a translator to Los Angeles' Fox 11.

He was confronted by a woman with a child by her side after allegedly bumping into the young girl, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials confirmed. "There was what appears to be a 4-year-old child there who witnessed the entire thing".

Rodriguez said a bystander photographed the attack with her phone and drew the woman's attention.

The man suffered broken ribs, a broken cheek bone and was bruised all over his body, his relatives say.

"He is [doing] very badly, he has many bruises on his face, he has lost his sight in his right eye and he has a broken cheekbone".

The fundraiser has far surpassed the initial $15,000 goal, with donations pouring in to help Rodriguez. At one point, he says, the woman ran up to a group of men nearby and told them Rodriguez was trying to take her daughter away from her - so the men joined her and started kicking him as he lay bleeding on the sidewalk, Rodriguez said. Rodriguez is a legal USA resident, according to Independent.

'She took the block of concrete and hit him in his head many times. People are sending messages of prayer, while others want the old man to know that "not all Americans are like your attackers". Mendoza told the outlet. "What kind of threat does he pose to you, for you to do this to him?" his grandson Erik Mendoza asked.

A witness began recording the incident involving Rodriguez and a woman and four men.

Minutes later, however, the attack continued, Borjas said. "She see me in my auto and walking to me and she told me, 'Oh, what are you doing?" Police are now looking for a female suspect and three to four males.
