Netflix is Rolling Out a New ‘Smart Downloads’ Feature Today

Netflix makes it easier to manage downloaded shows on Android

Netflix is making it easier to watch shows on mobile

Once you connect to your office WiFi, Netflix will delete the episodes you've already watched and seamlessly download the next one in the background.

The Smart Downloads feature is available today for Android users and will be available on iOS later this year. "Whether it is smart downloading or viewing a mobile preview, we realise the best part of Netflix is connecting with the stories you will love in an easier and more fun way", he said.

As Deadline reported Tuesday morning while the world woke up to yet another day of abject misery, a fresh Smart Downloads setup will further uncomplicate the process by automatically trashing episodes of series you've already seen. But the problem with the feature as it stood was that you had to manually download each episode in a series. Johnson emphasized that the Smart Downloads automatic refresh feature is optional.

Smart Downloads will need to be switched on through the Netflix app settings, and can also be switched off in case you prefer to download and manage your TV shows the old fashioned way. For the time being, Smart Downloads is only available on Wi-Fi in order to allow the user to keep control over their mobile data usage from the app.

Netflix says the feature is mostly aimed at public transit commuters who may have limited or poor network coverage during their journey.

Netflix is a free download from the App Store, but requires a monthly subscription to use. Netflix also recently released its first show produced in India, Sacred Games.

The streaming service launched the Download feature in 2016, making it possible for customers to watch shows and movies on the go.
