LeBron James made his seismic move to the Los Angeles Lakers official on Monday when the three-time National Basketball Association champion posted a photo of himself smiling alongside his freshly-signed four-year, US$154 million contract.
James brought Cleveland its first major sports crown since 1964 when the Cavs won the 2016 NBA crown but lost three of four finals showdowns with the Golden State Warriors, falling to 3-6 for his career in the NBA Finals, and chose to make a move in hopes of rebuilding the Lakers into a victor. LeBron is a Laker.
James, 33, has averaged 27.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game in 1,143 career contests.
"When LeBron James - a perennial NBA MVP and champion who is playing at the most astonishing levels of his career - chooses to join the Lakers, it serves as the ultimate validation for what we are building here".
The Akron, Ohio, native has been named an NBA All-Star in each of the last 14 seasons, earning First Team All-NBA honors on 12 occasions, including the last 11 consecutive seasons.
"Let's welcome #LAbron to LA the only way we know how!" a post on Blaze Pizza's Facebook page announcing the promotion stated.
Kobe's time away from the game coupled with being 39 years old isn't a good combination for a guy trying to get back the magic he once had for one final season.
James also won Olympic gold medals in 2008 at Beijing and 2012 at London.
The Lakers have a solid young core led by Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and Kyle Kuzma. While it is no secret James and Paul George were Plan A, they will have cap space once again next year after only signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, and Rajon Rondo to one-year deals.
