Mathis announced on Sunday evening that he has not only de-committed from Michigan State, but also has committed to Ohio State.

Ohio State Buckeyes take the field prior to the game against the Northern Illinois Huskies at Ohio Stadium on September 19, 2015 in Columbus, Ohio.

On Sept. 23, 2017, Class of 2019 4-star quarterback Dwan Mathis committed to Michigan State over schools such as Ohio State, Iowa State and OR, among others. Mathis, 6-foot-5 and nearly 200 pounds, visited Ohio State over the weekend and ended it with a commitment that could send shockwaves through the Big Ten. "The decision weighed heavy on my heart". He spoke of Ohio State's hesitance to give him an offer earlier this year. Now Michigan State will have to start a new search for a 2019 quarterback.

The decommitment is the second of Mathis' recruitment. He finished that visit by flipping his commitment to the Buckeyes.

Friday Night Lights was supposed to be a big night for three-star quarterback Brian Maurer of Ocala (Florida) West Port, as he was working out for Ohio State's coaches in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center trying to prove he was worthy of a Buckeyes offer.

Mathis was the only quarterback among the Spartans' 2019 commitments and its second-highest rated member of that class, which now stands at 10 members. Before committing to Michigan State, Mathis was previously committed to Iowa State.
