Melania wears 'I don't really care do u?' coat on migrant visit

As the first lady boarded her plane from Andrews Air Force Base, she wore an olive green jacket. The words were written in large white letters on the back.

The jacket, with its message in white letters similiar to graffiti, received heavy coverage on social media Thursday. "There's no message. I hope we can talk about her important visit with children today rather than her wardrobe choice".

Mrs Trump made a previously unannounced visit to a child migrant detention centre on Thursday, saying she wanted to help reunited migrant children who were separated from their families. Former fashion model Melania Trump does not wear things by accident - particularly not a cheap Zara jacket from two seasons back.

"[She] fails to take a good, hard look at herself in the mirror beforehand!"

Another added: "Feckless stunt...[Melania] doesn't care and is mocking anyone who does".

In a dramatic reversal of his previous stance, Mr Trump signed an executive order to keep families together at the border.

During her visit, she spoke alternately in English and through an interpreter, asking individual children in three classrooms where they were from.

Others compared the event to the 2014 incident when then-President Barack Obama was bashed for wearing a tan suit, or the time in 2009 when conservatives criticized Michelle Obama for wearing a dress than exposed her bare arms. "Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!".

It was not the first time Melania Trump raised eyebrows for her fashion choices when out in the field: previous year she wore needle-thin high stiletto heels to observe the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey.

The US first lady visited the Upbring New Hope Children's Center in McAllen, near the Mexico border.

However, the President soon contradicted this message by sending out his own interpretation of his wife's outfit. When she deplaned in Texas, she had changed into a fitted cream-coloured Safari jacket.

When asked what message the first lady's jacket intends to send, spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said: "It's a jacket".

"Spending time with them reinforces the fact that these kids are in this situation as a direct result of adult actions", she said. Since the Stormy Daniels stories began, Melania has been noticeably absent from her husband's side. Her husband, President Barack Obama, was the talk of a 24-hour news cycle when he donned a tan suit in 2014 for a media briefing.
