A sexual assault case involving Sylvester Stallone is now being reviewed by the Los Angeles District Attorney, Us Weekly can confirm.

"It is under review by our sex crime task force".

Santa Monica police said in December they were investigating a complaint that was made in November 2017 of alleged sexual misconduct in the 1990s by the actor. Details of the case were not released.

On Wednesday, a representative for Stallone repeated that the actor meant to press a case against his accuser.

The allegation against the star comes in the wake of the #MeToo movement that has focused attention on sexual harassment in Hollywood and beyond.

Late previous year, Marty Singer, Stallone's attorney, said his client "categorically disputes" the accusation and added that the woman filed the report to get media attention.

"We have already notified the police that my client wants to file a claim against the woman for filing a false police report", the rep told THR. At the time, Stallone's attorney said he "categorically disputes the claim".

California has a complex statute of limitations for criminal prosecutions of sexual abuse but offences must generally be prosecuted within 10 years. It has since become a worldwide phenomenon.
