On Tuesday, the Raptors finally made a decision to move forward with Nurse, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, in an effort to get a new lead voice in the locker room but not go through a total staff change given their success developing players and in the regular season. According to Woj, the two sides are still working out the specific details of the contract.

Nurse, 50, spent 12 seasons coaching in Europe and has six seasons of coaching experience in the G-League, where he won two championships and a Coach of the Year award.

The team and Nick Nurse are in the process of elevating Nurse from assistant under the deposed Dwane Casey to the top job, sources confirmed to Postmedia on Tuesday morning after an initial ESPN report.

Casey was sacked last month and was hired by the Detroit Pistons on Monday. Nevermind that Casey is a legitimate contender for Coach of the Year-General Manager Masai Ujiri felt the team needed a new leader.

A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Nurse was 23 when he became head coach of Grand View College, making him the youngest college basketball coach in the U.S.

In charge of the Raptors' offence, Nurse played a pivotal role in successfully reinventing the way the team played last season.

"I leave here with my head high", he told TSN via text message in May.
