Incumbent Republican Congressman Mark Sanford lost in the SC primary race to challenger Katie Arrington on Tuesday, after President Trump made an election-day social media move to hit out at Sanford and endorse Arrington in the race.

With 48 percent of the vote in, it's starting to look like Arrington could win the GOP nomination without a runoff.

Arrington, a political newcomer who has held her seat since 2016, spent the campaign blasting Sanford - who had never lost an election - over his lack of loyalty to Trump and attacked him in ads for a much-publicized extra-marital affair with an Argentinian journalist.

Polls are scheduled to close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In June 2009, Sanford disappeared from public view for six days and later claimed that he had been hiking on the Appalachian Trail. Regardless of his own position vis-a-vis the president, however, Sanford noted that Trump's tweet "may cost me an election in this case but I stand by every one of those decisions to disagree with the president".

Though he waited until a few hours before the polls closed to issue his endorsements, President Trump was a big victor in Tuesday's primary races.

"He is MIA and nothing but trouble", Trump tweeted.

"Mark Sanford has been very unhelpful to me in my campaign to MAGA", Trump tweeted.

Another Republican who was also critical of Trump, Alabama GOP Rep. Martha Roby, is also at risk of losing re-election. On the Republican side, Tarkanian (who is now running for the House instead of the Senate) will face off against state Sen.

"I am extremely disappointed that a candidate like Corey Stewart could win the Republican nomination for US Senate", former Virginia Republican Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling tweeted.

Democrats in Wisconsin: Democrats at the state legislative level continue to win improbable races.

A record number of Democratic women have filed to run for Congress since President Donald Trump stepped into the White House, with many telling CNN that they chose to run in response to Trump's presidency. So far, CNN has been unable to project a victor in the Maine House District or either the Democrat or Republican primary for Maine governor.

In Nevada, Democrats tapped Rep. Jacky Rosen to take on Republican Sen.

Interest in the race pushed voter turnout by Tuesday afternoon to a higher level than the 2016 Nevada primary, according to Nevada Deputy Secretary of State for Elections Wayne Thorley.

Also on Tuesday, voters nominated challengers to two of this year's most vulnerable Senate incumbents.

Four decades in S.C. politics, 16 months in the governor's office and an endorsement from the president were not enough for Gov. Henry McMaster to avoid a runoff in the Republican governor's race primary. Pete Domenici and Michelle Laxalt, the daughter of former Nevada governor and senator Paul Laxalt. Luria, a Navy veteran and businesswoman, was her party's pick in the contest for the seat held by Republican Representative Scott Taylor, who's a former Navy SEAL. In North Dakota, GOP Representative Kevin Cramer was declared the party's primary victor, setting him up to run against Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp.
