Following the E3 2018 Sony press conference a PlayStation Blog post written by Hideo Kojima was published, with an in-depth look at the way Death Stranding is coming together. There's mountain climbing, long hikes, risky rivers to cross and more. Yep, Norman Reedus is out there making deliveries. Actual gameplay also hasn't been seen yet, but we do know that the game is at least playable in some form per recent announcements from Kojima. We also saw an unidentified character carrying packages through a landscape. No combat, just traversal... and removing an injured toenail. Ugh. Unfortunately, he didn't quite evade their notice, and the scene concluded with a bunch of the creepy wraiths dragging him down into a deep black puddle.
Kojima also detailed two of the new characters shown in the trailer, played by Lea Seydoux (known for films such as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) and Lindsay Wagner, most well-known for her roles on The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. Seydoux appeared as a seasoned survivalist in an oddly spiky bodysuit, advising Sam on how to evade the creepy invisible monsters. We didn't get her name, but she did ask Sam if he knew who she was. Also, she was wearing an elegant dress instead of a survival suit and thus may be a hallucination? The goal of the main character is not yet clear, but he appears to be saving other folks who were trapped by unknown creatures.
