Stoke City are ramping up their search for a new manager.
Derby boss Gary Rowett has asked his club for permission to speak to Stoke regarding the managerial vacancy at the Bet365 Stadium.
Rowett is understood to be their chief target for the job, although he only signed a three-and-a-half year deal in January.
And a move to Stoke could appeal to the former Birmingham City and Burton Albion boss, whose budget is expected to be cut next season.
Stoke parted company with Paul Lambert last week after he failed to keep the club in the Premier League and believe Rowett is the man to lead them back into the top-flight.
Could Rowett leave Derby for Stoke?
According to Sky Sports News, the Potters have agreed to pay the £1.8m compensation fee and have agreed terms with the 44-year-old, whose Rams team stumbled in the Championship playoff semi-finals.
