Aaron Finch provided fine support for Rahul, contributing 46 (off 35 balls) to a 111-run stand for the second wicket as the Kings XI opener cruised through to another half century. Aaron Finch finally made a contribution of note with the willow. Losing wickets one after the other they found themselves in dire straits at 100-4.
Continuing his glorious run with the bat, Suryakumar started off in his customary style before breaking loose as he smacked rookie pacer Ankit Rajpoot for two fours and as many sixes to milk 21 runs off the second over of the innings before Tye was employed into the attack. India's death bowling specialist came through with aplomb, removing Rahul, Finch and Marcus Stoinis with Punjab unable to find the fence.
Even after having wickets in hand, Punjab was not able to chase the target. Mitchell McClenaghan had 16 to defend off the final over, and that was too much of a cushion against a nowheadless, panicked Kings XI line-up.

To compound matters for Kings XI Punjab, Bumrah returned in the penultimate over to bowl a brilliant over, conceding a mere six runs of it and getting rid of the big fish, KL Rahul, midway through the over.

Yesterday's KXIP loss ensured one of the four teams will qualify with 14 points on Net Run Rate basis. He is the batsman of the match. He finished with excellent figures of 3/15. "It was very important for us that he comes out and bats like that". He said: "I thought we played a flawless game". It's never been easy for us in the past few years.
"Knew it was going to be a good pitch". We lost our plot in the middle with the bat a bit.
Ashwin first bowled in the eighth over of the innings and did a decent job, giving away only five runs. "But hats off to them". We were very abstract about our performance last match and spoke about our best batsmen taking it deep. But we thought this was the time to bring him back.
"Bumrah has come a long way the past two years".
"As an opener, I wanted to take that extra responsibility". Malinga will be missed but Bumrah has replaced him beautifully.
R Ashwin (KXIP Captain): I feel pretty blank at this time. We had the firepower to chase it down but we could not do it. Just didn't work out in the end. It looked like it was going to be a clinical romp. We need results to go our way. "Those things happen. Been happening for us a number of times now", he added. The wicket eventually arrived in his final over and - surprise, surprise - it was the knuckle ball again as Hardik Pandya cut him to short third-man.
