Duluth Celebrates National Salvation Army Week

Salvation Army chapter encourages volunteerism

National Salvation Army Week, a period of celebrating the contributions made by local Salvation Army branches across the nation, started Monday, with celebration happening at the local Abilene branch.

The Quincy Family Store will hold its celebration Wednesday and the Hannibal Family Store will celebrate on Thursday. Hot dogs, chips, drinks and desserts will be served from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m.at each store.

National Salvation Army week recognizes what the Salvation Army has done in communities all across the country.

In addition the stores will host a daily Hide-N-Seek $5 gift card giveaway. Salvation Army Public Relations Director Morgan Shiyou said, "It's really just to let people know that the Salvation Army is here and that we appreciate our volunteers and things that people do throughout the entire year to help".

Salvation Army Family Stores offer clothing, household furnishings and a variety of other items at affordable prices.

Two-thirds of the Salvation Army's meals in Duluth go toward the food shelf.

The Salvation Army assists over 24.2 million individuals nationwide throughout the year and more than 3.2 million of those are during the holiday season.
