It's hard to be swept in a series when you nearly never lose the finale. Olson's homer in the ninth of Craig Kimbrel cut Boston's lead to 6-4, but the closer recovered the record the final three outs and help the Red Sox avoid a sweep. This comes less than one day after Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said the Celtics are "gooning the game up", per Martinez.

Cahill completed five innings, allowing just two hits after the first to leave with the A's still in the game only down 3-2.

The Red Sox trailed the A's for nearly the entirety of the first two games of the series.

Allowing the first two runners of the inning to reach, tiresome surrendered a three-run bomb to Xander Bogaerts that traveled over the green monster to give the Red Sox a commanding 6-2 lead and essentially end the game.

Tasked with the bottom third of the Oakland lineup in the seventh, Heath Hembree served up a home run to pinch hitter Matt Joyce.

The good: Chris Sale only gave up two hits over five innings of work and struck out nine.

By now, we all know the story behind Drew Bledsoe and the "Scary Terry" shirts, but now we have Sale (and apparently other Red Sox players) with their own unique way of showing support.

Given the middle of the Athletics order, Barnes threw a scoreless inning of relief, dropping his ERA to 2.89 on the season.

Barnes worked around a two-out single in the sixth, excelling in the sort of high-leverage role he's carved out early in the season.

Home run No. 5 on the season was a shot over everything in left field.
