Police are searching a park in Arlington near an apartment where they say an attempted sexual assault took place

Police say Jermaine Johnson, a 30-year-old Arlington resident, broke into an apartment on the 800 block of S. Frederick Street, brandished a knife and tried to sexually assault the victim.

According to Arlington County police, Johnson was at his home Saturday morning. Following an intensive investigation, detectives developed a suspect description based on crime scene evidence collected and witness interviews. If seen, do not approach and call 911 immediately.

Arlington County Police have arrested a suspect in the attempted rape of a woman near Columbia Pike on Friday.

The girl was taken to a hospital with minor physical injuries, Arlington police spokeswoman Ashley Savage said.

The victim described the suspect as a black male adult, possibly in his 30s, 5'7, medium build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and with blue jeans.

Police responded to the neighborhood searching on the ground and by air with their helicopter to try to find the suspect, but they were unable to locate him. Officers will continue conducting extra patrols in the area.
