Edmonton Fire Rescue said one person was sent to hospital after a fire inside an apartment in the city's northeast early Friday morning.
Seven people are displaced because of an early morning fire, but officials say working smoke alarms saved lives.
The fire broke out around 5 a.m.at an apartment building in the 1400 block of Croxton, the Bloomington Fire Department said.
When firefighters arrived, they worked to put out the fire and searched the building.
"The majority of fires occur in the home and then over half of those occur in the time where we are sleeping", Blade said.
Six crews responded and were able to get the fire under control by 2:11 a.m. No one was injured.
Damage to the building is estimated at $50,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The American Red Cross is offering housing and other assistance to the displaced residents.
