Trent Alexander-Arnold rewarded with £40000-a-week deal

Trent Alexander-Arnold triggers salary increase in Liverpool contract

The Mirror says Alexander-Arnold has been given a massively increased contract on the back of his stunning Liverpool form.

Liverpool are ready to double the current wages of youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Though he faces competition from both Nathaniel Clyne and Joe Gomez, the 19-year-old has been the most consistent and impressive option on the right side of Liverpool's defence.

"His defensive play has been outstanding recently and the ball for Mohamed Salah to score his 40th goal of the season against Bournemouth was of the highest quality".

The Liverpool FC teenager was one of the Merseyside outfit's standout performers in their 5-1 aggregate win against Premier League leaders Manchester City in their Champions League quarter-final.

While the magnitude of his impact will likely have surprised Klopp and the Reds' hierarchy, the Telegraph's Chris Bascombe reports that they were prepared for this swift rise.

However, a clause in that most recent deal means Alexander-Arnold will now see his pay hugely elevated - with a double-money hike triggered after the player reached 30 senior appearances for the Reds.

Alexander-Arnold signed a five-year deal at Anfield in July last year.

Pep Guardiola looked to target the 19-year-old in both legs of the last-eight clash but Alexander-Arnold managed to tame Manchester City's impressive Germany global Leroy Sane.

While this remains a lofty ambition, few would doubt Alexander-Arnold is on the right trajectory, with Jamie Carragher even tipping him to surpass his tally of 737 outings for the club.
