After disrupting the Indian telecom market with its competitive pricing, Reliance Jio is now all set to enter the entertainment segment with the JioHomeTV.
So, before Reliance Jio officially launches Reliance Jio DTH, it may first launch JioHomeTV, standard definition and high definition television services at just Rs 400.
A new report has now surfaced online suggesting that the telecom operator might soon launch its DTH set-top-box and IPTV services in the country.
(G.N.S) DT.16 As reported by TelecomTalk, Reliance Jio is working on a streaming service called JioHomeTV.
While Reliance Jio has not announced its strategy for providing the much-hyped DTH services, Reliance Digital TV is already offering free access to an extensive range of HD channels for one year and up to 500 free-to-air channels for five years. According to a report, the new Jio Home TV service will offer SD channels at Rs. 200 per month while SD and HD channels will be charged at Rs. 400 per month.
However, reports suggest JioHomeTV is being tested by Reliance Jio for the past couple of years on the Enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS). Of course, we advise our readers to take the new report on Jio service with a pinch of salt as the company has yet to make any official announcement on the same and the credibility of the source couldn't be independently verified. The eMBMS is a hybrid technology that fuses the broadcasting architecture used by TV channels and FM radios with the one used by telecom service providers. There are also chances that the rumored JioHome TV could be a rebranded version of this JioBroadcast app. Interestingly, customers will not require having an active internet connection as most of the content will be in the broadcast mode for the offline viewing experience. Moreover, Reliance Jio had already announced previous year that it had performed "eMBMS broadcast stream across Pan-India", indicating it is actively working on this service.
