On Saturday, Ulster and the IRFU released a statement saying the players' contracts had been revoked with immediate effect.
A third player, Craig Gilroy - who was not involved in the trial - has also apologised for his part in the conversations and been disciplined with a two-week suspension.
It's a joint Irish and Ulster rugby position.
However, a review was carried out amid concerns over details including sexually explicit conversations on WhatsApp that were deemed derogatory towards women.
The Ireland worldwide and teammate Paddy Jackson had their Ulster Rugby and IRFU contracts revoked on Saturday after the union's internal review following the duo's acquittal of raping the same woman in a nine-week trial at Belfast Crown Court.
Explaining that the decision to revoke the players' contracts was a unanimous one taken by the IRFU management committee, he said the review panel had "looked at all the facts and circumstances".
"I think there is a sense among the fans that they have been left in the dark".
Replying to queries on the link between the club and the former Ulster centre, Hunter said: "I can tell you what I know, which is absolutely nothing".

"I think that is because they are fans of the game and they probably feel these guys have been acquitted and are being judged on their text messages, which were obviously completely out of order", he said.
"That is the core issue here and that is why they're moving on because they didn't meet the code of conduct that Irish players are held to".
"I think it's an opportunity to Ulster Rugby to rebuild itself as a brand after the last couple of months", he said.
"I hope that they will learn from that and I hope they fulfil their potential going forward".
Jackson and Olding haven't played in a year.
