Sate BJP President and Lingayat strongman BS Yeddyurappa called the remark disrespectful of a saint from the Nath community and demanded an apology from the Congress.
The state unit saffron party took to Twitter saying, "Dinesh Gundu Rao said Yogi Adityanath must be beaten with chappals". What kind of governance is this? "If he had any decency he would have resigned by now, because his government has been exposed, his own MLA has committed the crime", Dinesh Gundu Rao told reporters here. But with Siddaramaiah's war of words against his former mentor HD Deve Gowda, the resentment against the CM among this community has only swelled further.
The protests had come following Rao's comment, in reference to the outrage over Unnao rape and custodial death cases. If he comes next time to Karnataka, he should be beaten with your slippers.
According to reports he made the statement while describing the incidents that happened in Jammu & Kashmir - where the BJP is in power with the PDP - and in Uttar Pradesh as horrific, Rao said that Adityanath is "unfit to be the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh" and demanded his resignation. "Had you used the same language to speak about a Muslim cleric, your wife would have done to you what you asked the people to do to Yogi Adityanath", MP Pratap Simha said.
While attending a candle-light march on Saturday demanding justice for the Kathua and Unnao rape victims, Rao had said to the gathering, "PM Modi should sack Yogi Adityanath as he is not a Yogi but a "dhongi" (fake)". Utter disrespect to a CM and a revered Natha family saint. "Yogi Adityanath ji is on their hate list not because he is a tough administrator but because he is an uncompromising, unapologetic Hindu", tweeted Malviya.
The BJP holds the protest in the state's capital Bengaluru against Congress leader Dinesh Gundurao's "inciting remarks" on UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
