It was later revealed that Adnan Khurram, the "fake" doctor, hails from Bihar and is from Baradi Bairiya village in Champaran district. The accused used fake identity proof to make friends across the medical college and even participated in events organized for doctors.

The police said Khurram had no criminal record.

Khurram reportedly managed to attend events like marathons and strikes meant exclusively for AIIMS doctors. As per the Hindustan Times report, the police team, who arrested Khurram on Saturday, were "surprised" by his "knowledge' of medicines, and the names of department heads and doctors at AIIMS". In one of his reasons is that he had to help a family member get preferential treatment.

According to RDA president Harjit Singh, Khurram had been observing his activities in the campus for the past many months and chose to keep a watch.

On Saturday, when he the accused Khurram participated in a marathon organised by the doctors, some doctors got suspicious and asked him about his identity.

HT quoted the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) chief Harjit Singh saying that he recently became suspicious of Khurram's activities after which he made a decision to keep a watch on him. We found out that he had made different claims to different doctors.

During interrogation, Khurram told police that he was impersonating a doctor to ensure that his sister was admitted to AIIMS timely while in another statement, he said he posed as a doctor as he liked the profession and wanted to spend time with other doctors. To some, he would claim to be a junior resident doctor and to the junior resident doctors he would regard himself as an undergraduate medical student.

Financial Express reports that Khurram was charged under IPC Sections 419 (impersonation) and 468 (forgery for objective of cheating) at Hauz Khas police station and has been lodged in Tihar Jail, DCP (south). He further also gave a possible reason for the impersonator going unnoticed for a long period of time informing that AIIMS comprises about 2,000 resident doctors and that not every doctor knows about the other. There are also photographs of him with politicians.

Apparently, it seems like it has become easy for people to impersonate as doctors especially at AIIMS since this is not the first fraudulent case that has come up from the apex hospital.
