Android P is now available as a developer preview for Android app developers only. Nonetheless, Google has a new MIN_SUPPORTED_TARGET_SDK_INT class starting with this year's Android P, and this indicates the minimum supported API level for a device.
As of now, the older apps are still running on Android P but with added warnings. Therefore, it is being presumed that apps built for Android 4.1 or lower will most likely not work on smartphones that will run or be updated to Android P later this year.
"This app was build for an older version of Android and may not work properly".
Google already stated that future versions of Android would block apps that don't target a recent API level, but there weren't any specifics. "We're now Wear OS by Google, a wearables operating system for everyone".
Google is restricting support for older apps in order to ensure that users do not experience performance, security problems with their apps. "Try checking for updates, or contact the developer". These included protections against the installation of apps from unknown or untrusted sources, kernel hardening and the elimination of support for insecure network protocols. It appears with Android P, the change will take effect fully.
The decision likely comes as Google looks to improve the security of Android P, which the firm is also doing by preventing idle apps from accessing the smartphones' camera and mic, in a bid to ensure that dodgy apps running in the background, such as the SonicSpy spyware uncovered previous year, can't silently record audio and take pictures for blackmail. The details were spotted on Reddit and also shared on by Android Police.
Android P will probably be released in the third quarter of 2018. This feature arises from reports of apps like Facebook using your smartphone's microphone to listen to your conversations. But with Android P, Google will automatically turn the microphone and camera access off.
Google pointed out this achievement for Android in a 56 page report that mainly talks about Google Play Protect. The notification drawer will have rounded corners and users will be able to reply to messages directly from here.
