Fox doesn't admit it was trying to beat it's former ratings juggernaut but I think it's safe to say that had something to do with it.

Both competition shows have seen major changes this season, with Idol returning to the airwaves for the first time in two years and the original Idol victor, Clarkson, serving as a first-time coach on NBC's rival series. Her fellow AI judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, also had a good chuckle about the "Swish Swish" songstress' onscreen snafu.

When she isn't sharing her special, unique talent of looking like a frog, the 32-year-old pop star is taking her responsibilities as a judge incredibly serious on the show.

After Katy's amusing fumble aired, fans quickly took to Twitter to ask the performer if she is OK.

Noah Davis brought his love of alpacas and his wig-based lexicon to his audition.

She appeared to flash her underwear during the embarrassing moment, but TV bosses kept her covered up with a strategically placed American Idol logo. He performed "Unaware" for which Katy dubs him the best male artist they've auditioned so far and the judges agreed he's quite ready for Idol and he'll be moving on. And Lionel hugged her. William Casanova, 26, is the next artist to audition, and he sings "A Song For You" for the judges. Sussett got the golden ticket and was sent to Hollywood. He had the judges singing along with him, but there was no ticket for him.

An audition for American Idol is one thing, but getting your first kiss from Katy Perry already makes you a victor. They complied, but Katy slipped and fell.

"Are you engaged?" she asked the 27-year-old, who said that he has a girlfriend.

ABC's Idol dropped from its premiere high of 10.3 million viewers (which was in fact an historic low for Idol premieres) to 8.4 mil, with a 1.8 rating in the key adults 18-49 demo.
