Hit-and-Run Driver Flees Scene While Dude Bashes His Car With a Sledgehammer

The incident happened on Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 36th Street. During his initial attempt to run, he was approached by two people trying to stop the driver from leaving by shouting and banging on the window.

The arrest report says Lagutenko may have been high on narcotics.

Video shows the shocking moment that a bystander got a sledge hammer from his van and started smashing the windows of an SUV as the driver was trying to flee the scene of a multi-car wreck. Cell phone video shows the driver reversing and trying to leave the scene.

Police were able to arrest the unidentified driver, according to the Miami Herald.

Other people are seen in the video trying to pry open the vehicle doors and taking pictures of the car's license plate.

One person then walked out from a white van, pulled out a sledgehammer and began breaking the windows of the auto.

After the attack, the SUV can be seeing driving away. "(Don't move!"). The man stood near the wheels of the vehicle and the driver then proceeded to accelerate.

"That's insane. You know, you have a crash, you stop", witness Anthony Jimenez told Local10.

Miami Police said officers pursued Lagutenko on Federal Highway, near 48th Street.

"I'll call the cops and I'll try to chase him down", Jimenez said. He attempts to flee the scene of the crash several times but each attempt is blocked by witnesses in the area.

Police added they do not encourage witnesses to try and stop someone from leaving the scene, rather get a good description of the vehicle and contact authorities.
