Baylor, Saint Mary's lead snubs from the 2018 NCAA Tournament field

2018 NIT bracket announced: Baylor, Notre Dame, Saint Mary's, USC earn No. 1 seeds

Notre Dame has never won the NIT tournament, but it has reached the finals four times (1973, 1984, 1992 and 2000) in 11 previous appearances. Notre Dame looked like a sleeper last week in the ACC tournament and a team that could make noise in the NCAA Tournament.

USC coach Andy Enfield said he was shocked to see the Trojans didn't get a bid for the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night. The Irish boast a 26-10 lifetime record in the event (what was the original precursor to the NCAA Championship tournament) and advanced to the title game in 1973, 1984, 1992 and 2000.

USC, Notre Dame, Baylor and Saint Mary's grabbed No. 1 seeds for the National Invitation Tournament after their NCAA bubble burst, and Louisville, Oklahoma State, Middle Tennessee and OR joined them in the 32-team field.

Colson is also the leading scorer for the Irish on the year with 20.2 PPG and 10.1 RPG, while Matt Farrell has 16.8 PPG and 5.5 APG. "But I had prepared them for the NIT the last month". I don't have the energy to kind of go us-them, up-down.

"Like every year, this was an extremely challenging process but we are extremely excited about the field we were able to put together", said Reggie Minton, chair of the NIT Selection Committee. "They just didn't have enough on their resume to be in as an at large". "He's done a fantastic job at Harvard and we know that they're really good, and so it's going to be a very hard game".

When Notre Dame lost to Miami in the final week of the season ti set up a scenario where the Irish needed to either beat #1 ranked UVA in the season finale or win at least three games in the ACC Tournament to ensure their selection.

Other notable matchups include Marquette taking on Harvard on Wednesday night, and Louisville hosting Northern Kentucky on Tuesday night.

By the way, remember when Notre Dame beat Syracuse on their own court without their best two players and then Syracuse got in over the Irish?

Since star player, Bonzie Colson, has returned to the starting lineup the Irish have been decent. With that being said, the Pirates have been one of the hottest teams since the New Year. They really weren't interested, it was really a tough end to a season.
