The exchange of fire comes days after Islamabad accused Indian forces of killing four Pakistani soldiers along the Line of Control in Kashmir, where rebel groups demand that Kashmir be united either under Pakistani rule or as an independent country. Despite calls for restraint, India continues to indulge in ceasefire violations.

The Indian diplomat was told that deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas was indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, worldwide human rights and humanitarian laws. India-Israel nexus is considered to be a challenge for regional peace. "We urge the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement; investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations, instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC and the Working Boundary", added the spokesman. He urged that the Indian side should permit UNMOGIP to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim of this tragedy, as well as with their families".
