The team management confirmed they will retain the core team, support staff and coaching staff. Stephen Fleming will be back at the helm as the coach with Michael Hussey (who earlier played for CSK) as batting coach and local lad L Balaji as the bowling coach for Super Kings.
"We also have Brendon McCullum, Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo (our former players). I can't put any number to it but we will try to get him for the reasons I have said but at an auction it's the price that dictates the terms". "In the past, we have seen a lot of teams target former CSK players". With Ashwin we can not use the RTM as we have already got three Indian players retained. "I am very confident that this offer will be well received by consumers in building their dream homes. But, you know, I can't think (of) not coming back to CSK", the skipper added.
A level-headed coach who seems to know his players inside out, Fleming forged a hugely successful relationship with Dhoni, becoming one of the most successful coach-captain combinations in the tournament.
Since the Super Kings have retained three Indian players, they can not use a Right to Match (RTM) card for Ashwin during the auction.
Dhoni also spoke about the love he has received from CSK fans through the years.
"A lot of people approached me, I can tell you that", he said. The fans over here (Chennai) have literally adopted me, they accept me as their own. As I said, it's because of everything that we have been through, how we have conducted ourselves, how the management, players and fans have been. There can't be any bigger compliment than that. That's why I said we have to keep the emotions aside and we may want somebody and if the price goes outside our range and then we actually have to let him go. "This is a special place and the thought of being with any other franchise was never a question", said Mahi at a promotional event here. As of now, it is tough to say, we will get him or him or him. We have two RTMs. But we will have to wait and watch.
"At an auction, we also have to look at how much money we can afford to go for each individual as we look to make a strong team", he said.
