Security has been tightened in and around the hospital.According to Director of Chandramani Hospital Roop Kumar Agrawal, Mr Togadia was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state. Heavy police security was deployed at the hospital preventing VHP workers from entering the premises. He arrived unconscious in an ambulance.
The joint commissioner of police had pointed out that Togadia had gone missing without his Z-plus security cover - the highest level of security cover provided in India.
The crime branch, meanwhile, formed four teams and was sourcing CCTV footage.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the umbrella body of all saffron outfits, in a one-line statement late on Monday expressed concern over the "goings-on around Toghadia" and hoped the state government and the police would initiate immediate action.
The mystery over Togadia's disappearance deepened, with a senior police officer maintaining that neither the local Sola police nor the Rajasthan Police have arrested him. Several VHP workers gathered at Sola Police Station here, whose personnel were said to have accompanied Rajasthan Police to arrest the VHP leader.
Earlier in the day, VHP spokesperson Jay Shah claimed that Togadia was detained by the Rajasthan Police in an old case.
The police said that a contingent of Rajasthan Police had indeed come to arrest him under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC in an old case, but could not find him at his residence.
The police denied the allegations. "We are trying to trace Pravin Togadia and hopefully will succeed in our endeavour", Bhatt said. Bhatt categorically stated that Togadia has not been arrested.
At around 4 PM, a group of 40 workers of the VHP laid a siege to Sola police station and shouted slogans for the "release" of their working president.
In Ahmedabad, VHP workers pelted a municipal bus in Paldi area and staged protests in Surat, Rajkot and Jamnagar.
