Shorthanded Spurs look to keep winning ways going versus Lakers

Lakers need overtime but pick up fourth consecutive win with 107-101 victory over Mavericks

Lonzo Ball, Lakers lose Brandon Ingram, beat Mavericks in OT, 107-101

The Los Angeles Lakers (15-27) dominated the Dallas Mavericks (15-29) in rebounding and field goals scored.

Unfortunately, the Lakers lost forward Brandon Ingram to a mild ankle sprain in the second quarter after the 20-year-old had started brightly and led the Lakers to an early 11-point advantage after the first 12 minutes of the game. Among them were Wesley Matthews and Harrison Barnes who each scored 17 points.

Free throw and 3-point shooting kept the Mavericks in the game, although they were nowhere near where they need to be.

Speaking on the Rich Eisen Show, Windhorst said that league executives and agents believe that the Lakers could be looking into the possibility of making a head coaching change at the end of the season.

The Mavericks enter the game on the back of back-to-back victories, a 114-99 routing of the Orlando Magic last Wednesday before a 115-111 road win over Charlotte Hornets.

After Randle almost turned it over, Ball picked up the basketball and forced up a desperation shot that was well short.

The most recent chapter in their ongoing war of words comes courtesy of Kuzma, who snapped video footage of Lonzo wearing a du-rag on the team's road trip to Dallas. Clarkson finished with 19 points and four assists on the afternoon.

On Saturday, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss tweeted she would be having dinner with Walton on Sunday night and used the hashtag "In Luke We Trust" to endorse the second-year head coach.

The Mavericks, however, continued to fight back and cut the difference to three points with 42 seconds remaining in overtime.

The fact that LaVar's son Lonzo is the starting point guard for the franchise and their future star means this comment carried some weight and may have some truth to it.

Popovich's Spurs will have to deal with Lonzo on the court Thursday when they face a Lakers team riding a two-game winning streak following a nine-game losing streak. Day next on the schedule.

Kyle Kuzma also put together an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double while shooting 8-of-13 from the field. In 30 minutes, no. 30 scored 22 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and handed off six assists in a near triple-double performance.
