Reasons Why The Eagles Will Beat The Falcons In The Playoffs

This match-up between the northern birds (Eagles) and the southern birds (Falcons) marks the first time in history that the No. 1 seed in the National Conference is an underdog on their home turf.

Obviously, the loss of Carson Wentz due to a torn ACL was a devastating blow for Philadelphia when it comes to their chances of winning the Super Bowl, and even though the team felt confident in Nick Foles at first, there have been major concerns over the last month. Current coach Doug Pederson understood that and used that play type to get his quarterback comfortable. Soon after, the Eagles clinched their spot in the NFC Championship game, which will be played next Sunday at 6:30 Lincoln Financial Field. He didn't go down at the first point of contact. The one worry for the Falcons has to be a very strong Eagles run game with two legitimate starting running backs tagging in and out for each other. Think about that, a guy that was running into obscurity at the start of the season is now on the precipice of stardom if he can put the Eagles on his back.

A cagey first quarter featured just one score, Matt Bryant's 33-yard field goal following an 11-play drive by the Falcons. What does this entail for the Eagles against the Atlanta Falcons? The Falcons ended up with a field goal on the drive.

Matt Ryan was outplayed by Nick Foles.

"They look sharp and they're playing at a high level", defensive end Chris Long said. Philadelphia's backs, especially Ajayi also found some space.

But let's look at the reasons why the Eagles can win this game. Philadelphia turned to All-Pro tight end, Zach Ertz.

The fourth quarter is where it got interesting.

Adrian Clayborn just completed his seventh season in the National Football League, third with the Falcons, and finished with nine and a half sacks.

The Falcons' raw numbers were better in the return game, but Andre Roberts also cost them plenty with some bad decisions. He will take away Derrick Henry and force Marcus Mariota to throw the ball downfield. The drive nearly ended after Pederson took another risk and challenged a catch by Mohammed Sanu, a call that was reversed by officials.

On fourth down, Ryan rolled right, looking for Jones, who slipped as he made his cut. The Falcons struggle in Philly. Atlanta had issues converting those opportunities all season.

The Philadelphia offense was not impressive, but the Eagles defense was.

The Falcons are getting enough love in Vegas that it makes me fishy, but I'm taking this if only because I don't want to see Nick Foles take on Case Keenum in an NFC Championship. Fletcher Cox handled Atlanta's interior lineman and the Falcons were forced to run everything outside.

"Blitz is not a whole lot different than pass rush".

On the next play, Blount ran outside and avoided Grady Jarrett for the Eagles touchdown. But the Eagles have received a large amount of disrespect from the media leading up to Saturday's game, so needless to say, the Eagles will be more than energized to prove why they are the number one seed.
