Modi receives Netanyahu at airport

Modi Netanyahu embrace at start of India trip

A smiling Modi embraced Netanyahu and then shook hands both with him and his wife as they stepped on the red carpet at the airport in Delhi

In contrast with prime ministerial visits to the United States or Europe, Netanyahu's trip, which will take him to three cities in India, will focus very little on Middle Eastern affairs such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

During his visit in July previous year, PM Modi was received by Netanyahu at the airport, and was accorded the kind of welcome by every religious sect that is reserved for popes and U.S. presidents. On Monday, he'll meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and call on President Ram Nath Kovind as well as attend an India-Israel CEO Forum Meeting.

The three bronze statues at Teen Murti represent the Hyderabad, Jodhpur and Mysore Lancers who were part of the 15 Imperial Service Cavalry Brigade. "The visit will focus on the progress made between India and Israel since Prime Minister Modi's visit to Israel last summer, and on shaping the next 25 years of relations between our countries and our peoples".

The Israeli PM will be accompanied by a 130-member delegation from various sectors including cyber, agriculture and defence.

He will also meet his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi and hold delegation level talks. Without confirming whether an agreement for Israeli Spike missiles will be signed during Netanyahu's visit, Carmon said the Spike project is an example of "Israel engaging in Make in India" because it can be implemented through partnership between an Israeli company and Indian firm.

Israeli Ambassador to India Daniel Carmon on Friday down played India's stand at the UN General Assembly over the United States decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in place of Tel Aviv, saying New Delhi's view "cannot influence" Indo-Israel ties.

The visiting dignitary will be accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourts of the Rashtrapati Bhawan tomorrow.

"Modi extended an invitation to Netanyahu to visit India at a mutually convenient time" during a July 5 press conference in Jerusalem.

Modi would be accompanying Netanyahu to Gujarat on Wednesday where he will be welcomed in the same fashion as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was with a road show in Ahmedabad.

The two leaders are expected to discuss trade and defence ties as well as the Israel-Palestine relationship, NDTV reported.

The Israeli leader, accompanied by dozens of Israeli businessmen, will visit the Centre of Excellence in Agriculture at Vadrad in Gujarat and interact with business leaders in Mumbai.
