Dushku was only 12 years old when the event allegedly took place and her story has lit up social media.
At TCA representing his new AMC Visionaries project James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction, the director and explorer said, "I just heard about it, but obviously Eliza is very courageous for speaking up, and I think all the women are that are speaking up and calling for a reckoning now".
"Obviously, Eliza is very fearless for speaking up and I think all the women who are speaking up and calling for a reckoning now [are]".
"She said, 'Look, Eliza has a big crush on you, she is always asking me, 'Oh, I bet Joel is dating all the women, ' 'I bet Joel is screwing a lot of women, ' so I said then we have to be careful with this one", he told Us. "It's just heartbreaking that it happened to her".
According to Dushku "He spoke these words: "'You're not going to sleep on me now sweetie, stop pretending you're sleeping", as he rubbed harder and faster against my catatonic body, '" and then suggested they keep the encounter quiet. The fact that this was happening under our very noses and we didn't know about it... And that anybody who might be a predator or abuser knows that that mechanism is there and that it's encouraged [that victims come forward] and there's no shame around it and that there will be consequences [for the perpetrators].
The director went on to say that there needs to be an awakening across all industries, not just Hollywood and education needs to be improved to hopefully prevent men from participating in this type of damaging behavior. This is not a reckoning for Hollywood or America; this is reckoning for the human race. "This s-t has been going on since Day 1", he said.
As previously reported, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum claimed in a long Facebook post on Saturday, January 13, that Kramer, then 36, sexually assaulted her when she was working on the 1994 film True Lies, taking her to a hotel room, lying naked on top of her and rubbing himself on her. "This is just out of nowhere and she has put out what she is going to say, so it is a he said, she said".
Dushku said that she's coming forward with her story years later thanks to the victims who have spoken out amid the accusations of sexual misconduct that have rocked Hollywood. "He was supposed to be my protector, he was my abuser", Dushku writes. He said they "treated Eliza liked family" and he doesn't understand why she would lie about him now after all of these years.
Kramer said he is now considering legal action.
In addressing the sensitive topic, the now-37-year-old Duskhu opened her lengthy post by acknowledging that she "struggled with how and when to disclose this, if ever". "I just don't get the vicious outright lies".
"I think she's making this up in her imagination", he continued. "We do everything we can to make sure everybody is safe". "I've never gotten anybody hurt".
