Here, some of our favorite robots, drones and other tech spread across the equivalent of 50 or so football fields in the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center and across the rest of Sin City. The lights - and everything else - were off for two hours.
Later on in the day, CES declared that the problem had been addressed and they were in the process of restoring power.
"A preliminary assessment indicates that condensation from heavy rainfall caused a flashover on one of the facility's transformers", said the Consumer Technology Association in a statement, an organization that holds the annual CES. This resulted in attendees getting led out of the affected areas until power could be restored.
This year, the event officially ends on Friday January 12th, but experts already know their favorites and which products are the most promising.
"I was on the Samsung tour getting a look at the booth, the power went off, and then immediately after that a generator kicked on, so some of the lights turned on", Tracy said. "The blackout is utterly nonsensical".
The irony of the incident was not lost on CES attendees and other social media users with the hashtag #CESBlackout quickly going viral. Intel tweeted a photo of the darkened convention center with the caption, "Introducing Blackout: The biggest thing to hit CES 2018 since 5G".
Batteries and motors are getting smaller and more powerful, making electric scooters and even single-wheeled devices good for all day use over many miles.
