In the four months since its surprise release, the Battle Royale mode for Fortnite has seen its popularity rise immensely, with a player count of over 30 million as of last month. But Epic Games wasn't quite finished apparently, as they've announced another update for next week. Knowing the map and what's where is one thing, but being able to be caught unaware (or more importantly, catching your opponent unaware) is what keeps the games fresh.
The latest Fortnite: Battle Royale developer update video has been published to let players know of a big update coming next week. This includes a new city location, a deserted motel, and a junkyard.
They previously thought it was light on points of interest and wanted to make more interesting areas for players to drop into all over the map.
Epic Games is also doubling down on themes for different regions of the map, explaining that the map will now be divided into different biomes, each with its own unique personality.
More "quality of life" improvements are also coming, but the update's not specific on what form those will take in the short term.
Williamson also shared that certain areas of the map are about to become more clearly defined once the new update is applied.
Lead systems designer Eric Williamson talked about the main features of the upcoming update in a new developer video, revealing that additional points of interest were among the features set to be introduced.
