Toyota Gazoo Racing unveiled the GR Super Sport Concept, a road-legal concept vehicle that incorporates hybrid technology refined through experience in the FIA World Endurance Championship, at Tokyo Auto Salon 2018. However, Toyota says it does give us a taste of what the company aims to achieve with its next-generation sports cars.
While that's the job of the Toyota Gazoo Racing team and its TS050 Hybrid race cars, the company has always claimed it is using lessons learned in racing to develop better cars - especially performance cars.
Featuring the same 2.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine from the Toyota TS050 Hybrid, the Super Sport Concept delivers nearly 1,000 combined horsepower between its internal combustion and electric motors. Say hello, then, to the GR Super Sport Concept, a sibling to the TS050 that now competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), and certainly not your parents' Camry.
"If the e-Palette Concept is the next generation of the horse-drawn carriage, the GR Super Sport Concept would be the polar opposite as the next-generation racehorse".

Featuring a high-efficiency EV system and lean-burn engine, the Toyota GR Super Sport Concept previews a next-generation super sports vehicle "set to deliver both ultimate power and environmental performance", according to the press release. "Its appeal is more personal, like that of a much-loved horse to its owner".
Toyota has launched a new performance brand, Gazoo Racing, via the Yaris GRMN hot hatch.
Toyota's return to world rallying saw it finish third in the manufacturer championship a year ago, with Latvala fourth in the drivers' standings. The new performance arm of Toyota has just released its first auto, the Yaris GRMN. "As the industry approaches times of tremendous change, I am strongly determined to make sure that cars will be fun for the next 100 years".
