Ingram's game-winner lifts Lakers past Sixers

For second time in months, big-city disaster affects Lakers' Corey Brewer

Ingram's game-winner lifts Lakers past Sixers

With about a second remaining in the game, Ingram released a flawless arching three-pointer that swished through the net for the go-ahead basket with 0.8 seconds left in the game. The Lakers (9-15) snapped a five-game losing streak by upsetting the Sixers (13-11).

Eight nights ago, Brandon Ingram showed a national audience that he might be ready to start taking a step into the spotlight, going toe-to-toe with prototype design/reigning NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Kevin Durant in a game that the Golden State Warriors needed overtime to win ... after Ingram missed a shot on the final play of the fourth quarter that would've clinched it before OT.

Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson added 16 points apiece for the Lakers, and Philadelphia's Ben Simmons had a triple-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 15 assists.

Make no mistake, there are actual signs of positive growth for the Lakers, with Brandon Ingram taking great leaps since an uneven (to be kind) rookie season and the defense still improving from a league-worst mark a season ago.

LaVar Ball was in Philadelphia on Thursday night.

Joel Embiid had 33 points to lead the Sixers, who dropped their second straight and their third in four games.

After the crowd turned on LaVar, the Sixers responded with a 16-6 run, culminating with a dunk by Richaun Holmes to tie the score at 101 points - the first time the Lakers had relinquished the lead since the score was knotted at 15. They earned it by playing a cleaner game for 48 minutes.

The Lakers and Sixers have played each other twice this season, and both encounters have proved, if nothing else, that these two teams play some entertaining highlight basketball against one another.

Much of that relative effectiveness stemmed from a top-five defense in the league, as the Lakers allowed only 100.3 points per 100 possessions in the time between the season opener and November 21. He had 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four blocks and three steals through the first three quarters alone. Ball did not get to play against top pick Markelle Fultz because of Fultz's shoulder injury. "He doesn't let anybody tell him to get away from his stuff".
