FORMER Minister for Mines and Steel and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Elder Wole Oyelese, has warned party leaders and delegates to prevent disaster by avoiding the traps set by governors through the imposition of Uche Secondus as national chairman.
The Spokesperson for the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who made all these known while speaking with journalists at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, said the party's constitution should be used as a guide on the issue. But some overzealous elements in the administration are bent... It is a very credible information. They are doing everything possible to make sure that this convention is disrupted.
He urged Buhari to go the extra mile to ensure that the PDP convention was successful by providing sufficient security in and around the arena.
"This is credible information and that is why we are appealing to President Buhari to please rein in his aides. We have evidence that the President is aware of this".
"We are solidly behind him and those in his camp because Nigerians need him, the PDP needs him and the nation's democracy also needs him if it must endure and to redeem the dying Nigerian people".
Dokpesi also said that PDP Governors are performing better than their APC counterparts. Kwankwaso, Senators, members of the House of Representatives, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, APC governors who had earlier left PDP.
"They know that if we have a hitch-free convention, it will mark the end of APC in power". I want to assure our party members that whoever emerged the National Chairman, the BOT is ready to cooperate and work with him for the progress of the party.
He said, "I have here the chairman of the caretaker committee, former chairman of Kaduna State, the chairman of convention planning committee, the governor of Delta State with the offcials for the convention".
Adeyeye further noted that Osun State would not participate in the national convention, adding that Anambra State was still under consideration due to disagreements in the state.
Makarfi spoke in Abuja on Tuesday when he received the chairman of the Steering Committee on the Development of Strategic Plan for the National Institute of Legislative Studies, Aminu Shagari, and members on a courtesy visit.
It was not clear whether Atiku had asked for waiver or not even as many analysts said the Wazirin Adamawa would definitely navigate his way ahead of the party's presidential primary next year.
