On Twitter, the developer has revealed that they'll be some kind of Tomb Raider event in 2018 to introduce the game, and it hints that will release shortly after the official reveal. Take for example, the very first capital letter from each sentence in the statement and you get "Shadow" as a word.
"A new Tomb Raider game is coming", Square Enix said in a Twitter post, which you can see below.
Great news for Lara Croft fans hoping for a new Tomb Raider game in 2018! That's it. The company is taking a "new approach" to the promotion of this project, limiting the information released to the public and instead having a very short time between the actual reveal and the game's launch, as a way to give a special treatment to the fans.
Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics began their new Tomb Raider series in 2013 with the self-titled game. We're getting a new Tomb Raider, that much is clear (and hopefully the PC version will come out at the same time as the console versions this time).
That's all we know for now, but we can't wait to find out more. And while The Video Games Awards begin later today, it appears that this new Tomb Raider won't be one of its reveals.
A feature film adaptation of the first game will be released next year, simply titled Tomb Raider, featuring Academy Award victor Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) in the lead role.
