Lahnert: Texas Tech doesn't appear to be bowl worthy

TCU QB Kenny Hill out vs. Texas Tech adds another wrinkle to wild Big 12 race

TCU star QB Kenny Hill ruled out Saturday against Texas Tech

With Hill on the shelf, freshman Shawn Robinson will draw the start behind center.

"Sometimes things happen for a reason", Patterson said Tuesday. "Coming out of the tunnel, I said, 'Just play. Just win the ball game'".

His absence means TCU will be without its starting quarterback and most productive running back against Texas Tech.

And it worked against Houston, when Justin Stockton and Tre King combined for 202 yards and two touchdowns and Texas Tech won its third straight game.

The Red Raiders got their only score on their opening drive of the game, a 21-play, 70-yard effort that ended with Hatfield's 22-yard field goal with 6:08 left in the first quarter. "And then you want to make it 10-6, and you have some momentum and feeling good about everything". There were a few times last season where touchdowns were taken off the board because of that mistake. TCU's defense dominated the Red Raiders, an effort capped by Jeff Gladney's 93-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. He has added 194 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns for the No. 12 Horned Frogs.

Texas Tech Drops Heartbreaker on Senior Day, 27-3

If Tech beats Texas on Friday and becomes bowl eligible, Kingsbury's job is safer than Jerry Jones being CEO of the Dallas Cowboys.

Shimonek started 7-9 for 42 yards and had a QB sneak on a 4th down.

Texas Tech jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but wouldn't score again. The trophy was awarded to the victor of the game from 1961-70 when the schools were members of the Southwest Conference. The Red Raiders shot 44.3 percent from the field and knocked down 17 of 24 free throws, but their 3-point percentage is a different story.

If Tech losses to Texas, which is guaranteed if the Red Raiders play anything like it did against TCU Saturday, Kliff will be killing it next fall as an offensive coordinator somewhere far from Lubbock. Texas Tech entered with a 31-25-3 lead in the all-time series versus TCU.

Can TCU coach Gary Patterson trust Robinson to win on a big stage a tough environment in Lubbock and at home against Baylor to close out the regular season and a berth in the conference title game should Hill not be able to go next week?
