Manchester United are keeping tabs on Valencia winger Carlos Soler.

However, he has found it very hard to do so, with links to Gareth Bale and Alexis Sanchez proving to be unfounded, and the pursuit of Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic leading him nowhere.

Pogba looked to be finally repaying the faith that manager, Jose Mourinho showed in him last season by shelling out £89m for his services, as the 24-year-old displayed excellent performances at the beginning of the season before injury curtailed his progress. Pogba has had a hand in 4 goals (2 goals and 2 assists) in as many matches this season in the league, meaning that he has improved on his efficiency In the final third, a trait United players don't now possess. They are second in the table, four points above reigning champions Real Madrid and four points behind current leaders Barcelona.

The Spaniard is primarily a central midfielder, but has proved his ability in a more advanced attacking midfield role and on the right flank as well.

Mourinho made no secret of his desire to sign four players over the summer, though only managed to bring in three - notably missing out on Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic.

According to the report, Soler would command a fee of around £40 million - a steep asking price for a player who only made his first-team debut 11 months ago.

The Independent suggest that Andreas Pereira may be key to any move for Soler.

Phil Jones is hopeful of recovering from the calf injury he suffered playing for England and being available for Manchester United's late game against Newcastle United on Saturday.
