THE Duchess of Cambridge's uncle has admitted hitting his wife in the face and knocking her to the ground after a drunken argument on the way home from a charity event.

Gary is the younger brother of Carole Middleton, and had earlier that night posted a picture of himself with fourth wife Julie-Ann that night after bidding on a bucket list trip to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Gary Goldsmith, 52, used a closed fist to attack Julie-Ann Goldsmith outside their home in Wimpole Street, London, around 1.20am on October 13 this year.

Goldsmith pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating, with prosecutor Kate Shilton describing to the court how Mrs Goldsmith fell down after her husband threw what was described by their taxi driver Daniel Shepherd as a "left hook".

"Both parties are drunk, they had been drinking through..."

She said Mrs Goldsmith had "fallen backwards" after the punch and the taxi driver believed she had been knocked unconscious.

When at the police station Goldsmith said he had pushed his wife hard but denied hitting her.

Stepping out for the solo royal engagement on the wet and cold day, Kate Middleton opted for knee-high black boots with a slight block heel, which she appeared to wear over black leggings. When the taxi driver confronted Gary, he became irate, and Julie-Ann told the driver to call the cops.

The court was told that, when the taxi driver challenged Goldsmith over his actions, he then became aggressive towards him.

"He pleaded guilty at Westminster magistrates" court yesterday to a charge of assault by beating. Kate heard specifically how Family Action - one of the charities providing support at the centre - offers perinatal mental health services. "I'm not really. I've had my moments - I'm not totally innocent - but am I disliked by my family?" He married sales executive Miranda Foote in 1991 before they split and he married second wife Luan, with whom he had a daughter, Tallulah. She met husband Michael at the airline and they later had Kate and Pippa.
