Reputable source Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Warner Bros.is considering an alternate DC films franchise filled with one-off stories. The production company has even brought on Todd Phillips (The Hangover) to co-write and potentially direct the film.
The project is expected to be part of a yet-to-be announced new banner under DC that will give the studio the opportunity to expand the canon with unique story angles revolving around these iconic characters apart from DC Extended Universe.
We'll report back with more details the new Joker movie as they're announced.
You won't be seeing this face in the origin film.
Don't expect the new Joker movie anytime soon, however.
The Joker has previously been played by Jack Nicholson in Batman, by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, and by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad. So Jared Leto will keep playing The Joker in a Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spin-off now in the works, and this other version of The Joker - which may be even younger than Leto's version of the character - will exist elsewhere. According to the news outlet, Martin Scorsese is also rumored to be producing the upcoming project alongside Phillips.
Meant to be "a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film", the movie would be set in the early 1980s and be closer in tone to Scorcese's Taxi Driverand Raging Bull than any DC films to date.
