Clif protein bars recalled due to allergy concerns

Stop & Shop has announced a recall of certain Clif Bar & Company products, and that they have removed them from sale.

The bars may contain peanuts and some tree nuts, including hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts, Brazil nuts, pecans, cashews and coconuts, according to the announcement.

"Clif Bar discovered this issue when it received a small number of consumer complaints alleging peanut or tree nut allergic reactions", the announcement said.

The bars being recalled are CLIF® BUILDER'S® Bar Chocolate Mint flavor, CLIF Kid Zbar® Protein Chocolate Mint and CLIF Kid Zbar® Protein Chocolate Chip flavors.

All of the recall notices warn that people with allergies or sensitivities to peanuts or tree nuts should not eat the recalled bars.

People with allergies to these nuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.

Individuals who are not allergic to peanuts or these specific tree nuts may safely consume the products.

Customers who have purchased these products should throw any unused portions away and bring their receipt to Giant for a full refund.

The FDA says the affected products' ingredient labels do not warn consumers about the possible presence of nuts.
