Bangladesh prepare to take on 'favourites' England in Champions Trophy opener

Champions Trophy 2017

England will be determined to get off to a great start in the ICC Champions Trophy opening encounter against Bangladesh at The Oval

Even if you are not the very best, you are still likely to be the very good and England would settle for being even pretty good if it sees them lifting the Champions Trophy at The Oval in a few weeks.

Root´s innings was his highest in one-day internationals, surpassing his 125 against South Africa at Centurion past year.

Laxman said that skipper Virat Kohli will be depending on these two bowlers due to their current form and the pace-friendly conditions in England which will host the Champions Trophy from June 1 to 18.

The 2017 ICC Champions Trophy tournament is a tournament running in England and Wales from the 1st to 18th of June with the top eight One Day International (ODI) Cricket teams vying for the Champions Trophy. Hales and Root bat well together and both cruised to half-centuries.

Earlier Tamim Iqbal´s 128 was the centrepiece of Bangladesh´s 305 for six after they lost the toss.

At 95 for 2, parity was restored, but in Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim found the ideal partner.

The ICC Knockout Trophy was first held in 1998 and it was the first time all the Test playing countries were participating in a tournament apart from World Cup.

As for the bowling for England, Liam Plunkett bagged four scalps, conceding 59 runs in his quota of four overs.

"The two warm-up games (vs New Zealand, vs Bangladesh) will give me an indication on how well I go in the tournament", Ashwin told PTI. He does, however, have the in-form Jonny Bairstow, who top scored against South Africa at Lord's, breathing down his neck.

But as the runs kept coming, an increasingly frustrated Stokes exchanged words with Tamim and mockingly patted him on the shoulder at the end of the 32nd over, with umpires Rod Tucker and S Ravi intervening to calm tempers. Tamim's superlative knock was studded with twelve boundaries and three sixes. Ball struggled, conceding 82 from his 10 overs, though he was unlucky when Moeen Ali dropped Soumya Sarkar on 11.

Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha tried to minimise the impact of Tuesday's reverse by saying: "Obviously it affects the confidence a little bit, but this is a practice game".

Bangladesh are led by Mashrafe Mortaza, with allrounder Shakib-al-Hasan and Mustafizur Rahmn looming as key players as they look to replicate their 2015 World Cup upset.

But just as Bangladesh looked set for a brutal finish, they floundered.

Though it is too early to say how the injury will impact on Woakes' involvement either in the remainder of this match, or England's subsequent group games against New Zealand on June 6 and Australia on June 10, side strains are notoriously hard injuries for fast bowlers to shake off.
