On the sidelines of his brilliant musical career, Gregg Allman also lived a attractive love story with the singer Cher.

Captain America actor Chris Evans informed his fans he'll be honouring Gregg's memory by replaying hit Allman Brothers Band song Whipping Post throughout the day.

Playing music "kept him going during the toughest of times".

Editor's Note: Gregg Allman died May 27, 2017, at the age of 69.

Cher moved on with Kiss guitarist Gene Simmons but talked about her ex and how she tried to help him in his battles with drug and alcohol in an interview with People in April 1978, noting that "nobody ever made me feel as happy as Gregory did".

"I was shocked because I listen to him on the radio all the time", said Guyton resident Lisa Tomasello.

"Brothers and Sisters" went to make them one of most famous and successful bands of the 1970s, but growing disagreements, drug and liquor usage and bad blood when Allman (who was then married to Cher in a short-lived union) testified against their manager in a drug case, saw the group disband in 1976. Gregg's Hammond B3 Organ became a signature sound in Southern Rock, distinctly marking a vital characteristic to the sub-genre. Derek Trucks first performed with Allman as a preteen and joined Gregg Allman's band when he was a teenager. He was admitted to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and, with the Allman Brothers, received a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement in 2012.

Of course anyone who has heard an Allman Brothers live recording will be aware of the band's ability to cut loose and jam, something Allman said were the real money moments. Another motorcycle accident the following year claimed Oakley's life.

Together they released a widely panned duets album under the name "Allman and Woman".

Gregg Allman and wife Cher in November 1977. The two would later file for divorce in 1978. "But at the top of that pyramid, you have the Allman Brothers without question". Allman wrote numerous band's early hits, played keyboards and sang in the group, which in its early years also featured his brother Duane. And he would go on to receive a liver transplant in 2010.

Despite entreaties from record company executives to relocate to Los Angeles or New York City, the Allman Brothers established a home base in Macon, Georgia, and embarked on a punishing touring schedule, developing a reputation as one of the all-time great live acts. Last year, Gregg was forced to cancel his summer tour due to unspecified "serious health problems". Allman's final concert would be in 2016 during his own Laid Back Festival, mentioning a tour for that following winter. Later that year, he canceled more dates, citing a throat injury. "This is the hardest thing I've had to do in a long, long, time", Allman revealed in a statement.

With his 1986 "I'm No Angel", Gregg enjoyed something of a comeback and also reunited with Allmans the same year.
